Crocheted Airplane Pattern
Here are the hats that my sister asked me to make for my niece, and two airplanes for my nephew.


One plane is a WWII bomber, chosen for its orange and green combo. The other is a commercial airliner.
Here's the pattern for the airplane, which is crocheted in the round.
Note: total number of sts in each round is shown in brackets.
Key
sc-inc = single crochet increase
sc-dec = single crochet decrease
tbl = through back loop
Body
Starting with nose-cone colour, 5 sc into a ring (5)
1: sc-inc in each st (10)
2: sc all around (10)
3: sc-inc in every 2nd st (15)
4: sc all around (15)
5: sc-inc in every 3rd st (20)
6: sc all around (20)
7: sc-inc in every 4th sts (25)
Swtich to airplane-body colour.
8-16: sc all around (25)
17: sc-dec every 4th st (20)
18: sc all around (20)
Stuff the body.
19: sc-dec every 3rd st (15)
20: sc all around (15)
21: sc tbl all around (15)
22: sc-dec every 2nd st (10)
23: sc-dec every st (5)
Bind off, and run the tail through the remaining stitches. Pull tight, and hide the tail in the body of the plane.

The body should be bullet-shaped, with a round, flat butt (more pictures here).
Cockpit
Starting with airplane-body colour, 5 sc into a ring (5)
1: sc-inc in each st (10)
2: sc-inc in every 2nd st (15)
3: sc-inc in every 3rd st (20)
4-5: sc all around (20)
6-7: sc 10 sts, switch to window colour and sc 10 sts, switch back to airplane-body colour (20)
8: sc all around with airplane-body colour (20)
Bind off.
Tail
Ch 8 sts. Sc a square and bind off. Fold square along the bias, sc the edges shut, and sew to the end of the airplane.
Wings - make 2
Ch 12 sts. Sc a square and bind off. Fold square along the bias, sc the edges shut, and sew to the sides of the airplane.
