Currently Reading

I've been reading the autobiographical Barefoot Gen: A Cartoon Story of Hiroshima, vols. 1-2, by Keiji Nakazawa. The whole series is 10 volumes, and I'll probably end up getting them all as they are slowly released in English.

Here are 4 pages showing the scene where the author and his mother witness his brother, sister and father die in the fireball that followed the bombing.

I'm also re-reading Junji Ito's amazing 3-volume horror series, Uzumaki. When you explain to people that the plot consists of a town haunted by spirals, and that someone dies in a washing machine while others turn into snails, you get chuckles, but trust me - it's spooked everyone I've loaned it to (actually, his earlier series Tomie freaked me out far worse, but most people seemed to prefer Uzumaki).

And I never thought I'd say it, but I'm actually getting bored with the Iron Wok Jan series, which I initially loved for the references to Chinese food.
