More Quilting
I caved in and bought a book on quilting, Denyse Schmidt Quilts (see some sample projects here), ripped out the seams of the college-shirt throw, and bound the edges properly.

I was so encouraged by the results that I took the fabric meant for my niece's advent calendar and made this twin-sized seizure-inducing quilt.

I should explain that before I re-purposed the fabric, I found a place that sells the kind of advent calendar I was looking for, and ordered it for her. I did a pretty complicated search in Google to find it, and lucked out with a post from another Toronto blogger (she has a picture of the item on her blog).
Okay, so after one small and one sort of big project I've decided I'd rather knit than quilt. The cutting is okay, although I don't actually cut anything. I make strips the lazy way by making a small cut in the fabric, then tearing it all the way down by hand. The piecing is okay, too. I hate the quilting part, whether by hand or machine. But I love, love, LOVE the binding. It's the only part of the quilting process that I like almost as much as knitting.
So, while perusing the craft section of a Chinese bookstore for inspiration from knitting books, I picked up a cute sewing book (ISBN 962-357-376-6). I was suckered in by the fake food. Here are some of the projects:
felt dan taht (egg tart, in the middle),

tiny quilted egg cozies,

a quilted bag with a cookie applique,

a box shaped like a loaf of bread,

embroidery, which I'm not crazy about doing, but I like this design,

and what will likely be my next project, felt mooncakes! The one at the bottom has its two preserved egg yolks exposed.
