Exhibit A - a plain, drop-shoulder sweater without sleeves,

The pattern is here (warning: pop-up ads), but it is poorly written. I couldn't have interpreted it without help from these two Craftster threads here and here. I used the information from those threads to write up an alternate, easier-to-understand beginning here.
My younger sister once remarked that knitting seemed much more refined than crocheting, which she associated with trailer parks. Ever since then, when I'm crocheting, I feel like I should have a cigarette dangling from the corner of my mouth, squinting through the smoke.

Sigh.
