Labour Day Weekend

There was a nice surprise waiting for us at home Friday afternoon. The birthday gift my younger sister and her husband sent to my oldest son was at the door. It's a magnetic building set from Lee Valley Tools. Here he is happily playing with it in his room. Most of his toys are downstairs in the basement, but he wanted to keep this set to himself, i.e. away from his envious brother, so he insisted that it stay in his bedroom.

Although his actual birthday and party is next weekend, my parents took him out for an early birthday dinner on Saturday. Yes, they always look this happy.

This is my older sister...

... and her husband. They surprised him with a Star Wars Lego set.

Let the carnage begin!

Mmmmmm!

I took 3 pictures of my husband, but he's washed-out white like this in every one. Ehh, no wonder the Chinese call them gwai-los.

Now that the younger boy knows how to ride a bike, we went bike-riding each day this past weekend. I'd forgotten how much fun it is to bicycle!

And, with the dojo closed for the holiday, I had time to do some sewing. I've been making things with the kids' drawings. Instead of simply transferring the drawings, I like to have the kids directly involved so that the finished product has their handiwork in it. I have the kids draw the motifs right on the fabric, then I embroider and sew them into zippered pouches and totes (the motifs, not the kids, 'course!).

The bunny-head, cake and monster were designed by the older one, and the car and two houses are the work of the younger one.

I finished the niece's tea set, and will be shipping it off soon.

So, now I'm back to knitting this shawl, which I started in early July if you recall from a previous post. So... much... stockinette... (yawn).
