Almost the End of Summer Vacation

Not much aikido news. Former Karasawa student OM has been showing up at the dojo. He has yet to hit the mats, in spite of my urging.

The family has been busy since the spousal unit's been on vacation. We went to the Canada's Wonderland amusement park twice and to Niagara Falls and Buffalo for our away-trip, from which we've just returned. We had to go to Wonderland twice because they have a new fee structure. It used to be that you paid a reasonably priced admission for a day, 35 dollars per person. Now they've hiked up the price by 50% to 52 dollars, justifying it by letting you visit twice on the same ticket. I guess they're counting on out-of-towners to visit only once because it wouldn't be worth using the second admission if you have to pay for another night in a hotel as well. For us, the second visit was better than the first. Turns out that the older boy is fairly good at playing carnival games. He won twice on a ball toss game and got himself and his brother the Madagascar-movie penguins. I'm so proud of him, not because of his skill but because he let his brother choose and keep the second toy without our encouragement.

Between our various excursions, I did a bit of knitting. Here is a Christmas scarf I made for my younger sister. Each link is knitted in the round, so no seams. I hope she likes it. It's fun to wear and I think she'll get comments on it (if nothing else, it looks interesting).

Here it is modeled. It's too bulky to wear like a regular scarf, but you can wear it with one end pulled through a loop.

The spouse goes back to work next week and then I return the week after that, so thus concludes our summer vacation - sigh.
